RV on Flax Street, Ardoyne, North Belfast
In summer 1993, 46 (Talavera) Battery RA was based in the Ardoyne, North Belfast. I accompanied soldiers on mobile patrols in 'Snatch' Land Rovers throughout the area.
By this period, the patrolling technique in urban areas allowed soldiers to ‘travel light.’ They wear their body armour under their combat clothing and are carrying ammunition for their SA80 rifles in their pockets.
At this rendezvous (RV), Staff Sergeant Anamate is pointing something out to the RUC constable and Craftsman McElwee (REME). The Battery Commander, Major Anthony Brown-Hovelt RA, walks towards the viewer from his vehicle. At left, kneeling, is WO2 (Battery Sergeant-Major) Robert McGregor.
The black dog belonged to the Battery.
