30th July 1993: The ceremony of the Installation of Major General M.I.E. Scott CBE DSO, General Officer Commanding the Army in Scotland, as Her Majesty’s Governor of Edinburgh Castle. The key to the castle is borne on a cushion, carried by the Quartermaster, Major M.M. Davidson BEM, and presented to the new Governor.

The Commanding Officer of 2nd Battalion Scots Guards, Lieutenant-Colonel T.M. Fitzalan Howard, is in front of the ranks of soldiers at the left of the picture. (He is the second officer from the left).

The Regimental Sergeant Major, WO1 J.G. Spence, is at lower right, pace stick under his left arm.

The Director of Music was Lieutenant-Colonel D.E. Price. In the centre of the foreground is the Drum Major, Sergeant D. Rennie.

I was hosted by 2nd Battalion Scots Guards at Dreghorn Barracks, Edinburgh. The battalion was placed into suspended animation after the Defence cuts in 1993.
