Queen's Royal Irish Hussars: Laying up the Guidon
A new guidon was presented to the Queen’s Royal Irish Hussars on 25th May 1985. The following year, the old guidon was laid up in Windsor Castle. At a ceremony in the Waterloo Chamber, on 1st May 1986, the guidon was handed to HRH The Duke of Edinburgh, Colonel-in-Chief of the Regiment, by Lt-General Sir Brian Kenny (Colonel of the Regiment).
In the picture can be seen Lt Colonel SR Daniell (Commanding Officer). At far right is the Quartermaster, Capt David Innes-Lumsden. In the centre of the guidon party stands RQMS TA Bamford, flanked by Sergeant RB Holuj and Sergeant NG Stocks. Behind them is WO1 (RSM) Arthur Currie.
At the end of the ceremony, Major Eastwood bore the guidon reverently to the Queen’s Guard Chamber.
The Waterloo Chamber contains portraits by Sir Thomas Lawrence of the leaders of the Allies who defeated Napoleon in 1815.
