Combat Outpost
16 Air Assault Brigade deployed on Operation HERRICK, Afghanistan, from March to October 2006. The establishment of Combat Outposts and District Centres within Helmand Province by the 3 PARA Battlegroup was a key element of the operation. Throughout the deployment, the soldiers in these remote and austere locations were involved in some of the most intense fighting for a generation.
This scene of the Combat Outpost in Now Zad depicts one of the Rear Link Detachments of 216 Parachute Signal Squadron which established and maintained vital communication links to both the Battlegroup and Brigade Headquarters from all of the isolated outposts.
