'In the wheel': Lynx Mk9A helicopters over Afghanistan
Two Lynx Mk9A helicopters on Operation HERRICK, operating over Helmand Province in the ISTAR* role, are seen ‘in the wheel’, circling anti-clockwise as they observe movements on the ground (either by insurgents or allied troops).
The Lynx were operated by 847 Naval Air Squadron and 9 Regiment Army Air Corps.
The picture was selected as one of the Aviation Paintings of the Year in the annual exhibition of the Guild of Aviation Artists, 2014.
