Officers' Mess dinner, 6 Regiment RLC, Gütersloh, 9th June 2015   Officers' Mess dinner, 6 Regiment RLC, Gütersloh, 9th June 2015

Construction of this air station was begun by the Germans in 1935. The station was active in 1944-45 with Ju-88 Nightfighters as part of the defensive aerial campaign fought by the Luftwaffe. After its capture in 1945, it became Royal Air Force Station Gütersloh. During the Cold War it was the nearest RAF airfield to the East/West German border.

Following the withdrawal by the RAF in 1993, the base became a British Army garrison, called The Princess Royal Barracks, Gütersloh. It was a base for British Army helicopters, and regiments of the Royal Logistic Corps.

A Dinner Night on 9th June 2015 was attended by the Brigade Commander with all the Officers of 6 Regiment RLC commanded by Lt Colonel James Priest. Music was provided by members of the Band of the Royal Armoured Corps.

The Regiment was known as 6 Supply Regiment from its formation in April 1993 until December 2008. After many years of being based in Germany, 6 Regiment relocated to Dishforth Airfield, North Yorkshire in 2016.
