A Combat Logistic Patrol and its Force Protection   A Combat Logistic Patrol and its Force Protection

A convoy of vehicles termed a Combat Logistic Patrol (CLP) provided the re-supply of rations, water, fuel and ammunition from Camp Bastion to Forward Operating Bases (FOBs). Typically, there were 15 to 20 task vehicles plus force protection, medical and recovery vehicles, and perhaps external force protection provided by combat units of Task Force Helmand, making a total of around 50 (sometimes up to 80) vehicles. Fast jets and Apache helicopters from the Joint Helicopter Force provided overwatch.

Each CLP was commanded by an officer of the Royal Logistic Corps and included Forward Air Controllers or JTACs, medics, members of the Joint Force EOD Group and recovery specialists. A move typically took between 16 and 24 hours (one way), the time being dependent on the size of the CLP, whether moving by day or night, and enemy activity.

In the foreground one of the force protection vehicles (a WMIK) has halted while a camel train crosses the desert.
